It has been a pretty busy week. It is that time of year again when everyone is getting back into the swing of off roading, both racing and riding. So that means the calendar is filling up fast and there are a bunch of cool thing coming up.
I got a call from Husaberg last week asking me to come out and ride something they have been working on. Basically a FX450 with some revised suspension settings and a FMF exhaust system. I got to ride with Nathan Woods out at Glen Helen on some of the GP course around that area, so it was a good time. Watch for a full report shortly.

Saturday we headed out to the AMA National Motocross at Pala Raceway. That was a very successful first time event with a huge turn out. Figuring the traffic might be bad, Neena and I rode out on the dual sport bike. It is only about 20 miles from the house so it was an easy ride. I guess the traffic coming in from the 15 freeway was a disaster, 2-3 hours to get in and back out. As it turned out, there was no traffic at all coming from the Escondido side. So it was no big deal to drive in that direction. I would have thought that more people would have realized they could drive around that direction. I got some great pics from the event if you have not seen them yet: Pala Mx Gallery
David Pearson and Mickey Childress discussing Baja 1000 preparations
I went out to the desert yesterday to see the KTM Baja 1000 team start testing. They are working on the spec for the 530 motor for the race. The team is looking pretty organized. This is a collaborative effort between KTM and team sponsors; Bonanza Plumbing and THR Motorsports.
It is amazing how big an effort it will be to do the 1000, especially as it goes clear to La Paz this year. For example they figure that they are going to need something like 70 tires in Mexico. It sounds like a lot, but when you figure in the race bike, all the spare wheels and tires for pre running, it adds up pretty quick. It will take about 20 individual pit stops along the peninsula. I plan cover all the teams exploits here and on MotorcycleUSA, so be sure to watch for that.
Today I am packing to go up to Lake Isabella for the dual sport ride this weekend. It is a beautiful riding area and the weather should be great, so I am expecting a good time there. I will be riding the 450xc dual sport bike that I have been writing about here. So far everything on that bike is going great.
Other up coming plans for the fall include;KTM Adventure Rally in Moab, KTM 990 Adventure test, Honda XR650L project and GasGas ec300 test.
Of course we are getting back in the swing of the fall race season. I have already wrapped up the vet class championship for the District 37 AMA enduro series. We have two more races in that series and two more National Hare & Hound events. After getting back from the Baja 1000, there will also be the Tecate Enduro in December.
So I have to head out to the garage to get my bike prepped for this weekend. So keep an eye out for postings on all of these events and features.
