8:30 am – It looks like the first test is in the books. Very strong finishes for Ian Blythe and Taylor Robert. These two have been so impressive as six day rookies. Look for both to move up in class today, as well as the Junior team. Caselli finished on the same second as test winner Remes, but they were both 3 seconds behind Aubert overall. Aubert is consistently winning every single test, a very dominating performance. Woods is looking strong today also. As if often the case many of the Americans are slow starters and spend most of the week just getting in the swing of things, the time losses from the first two days are just too much to overcome.
Wally Palmer had a bad test, finishing last in class. The women are struggling a little also.
It was very cold this morning when we left for the park ferme. Sat in traffic for 20 minutes before we got to the USA pits. It was double jacket weather! It was a new route trail today with parts of the same trail, but backwards. Pespi test twice, the mud test twice, lake test twice, and the mall test at the end of the day.
The mud test got changed and was rerouted around the mud crossings. The mud test is basically three different types of soil. The riders start of the top of the hill in the hard pack and head toward the bottom in the silt. Then make their way to the bottom in the grassy/mud pasture, and back up to the top. Kurt Caselli struggled in the mud test the first time through. Along with Nathan Woods, and Nick Fahringer falling down in that test. It seemed like the whole USA Team had a difficult time in the mud test the 1st time through.
Near the end of the day, Mike Brown, broke a hole in his ignition cover. He replaced the cover at check before the pre-finish. But he needed a gasket for the cover that he had to put on at that check. Most riders changed a front or a rear tire today. They will have time tomorrow before the motocross.
This morning we could smell the clutch on the car. Monty was over the driver and appointed me. Froze while waiting for the riders to show up at the mud special test. Michelle stayed warm in the port-a-potty. We took a power nap waiting for the riders to come back to the mud special test again. Woke up to kids throwing rocks at the car. Had home made steak tacos at the test. Pointed out lines. Michelle was the bag lady. Drove back to the park ferme. Saw 4 dogs run into the side of the car in front of us. Also saw two dogs tied up together. Some dude threw something in the road and we thought that it was nails. Michelle took a penguin dive in the parking lot. Drove down a one way street yelling at drivers going the wrong way…. After that we found out that they made it back into a two way. We had two drinks each at Starbucks covered in dust with our raccoon eyes.
DESTRY ABBOTT day 5:
One more day left!!! Day 5 went pretty well. I had a few good tests and a few not so good (but I didn’t crash on any:) I’m still sitting 13th in the E2 class and will most likely finish there. Tomorrow we just have a short ride to the final moto, and then get to throw down a moto session. I also like the fact the Trophy riders start late and I get to sleep in:)
