We rolled into Ensenada yesterday morning to start preparing for this year’s Baja 1000 race with the Bonanza Plumbing KTM team. We are a day early, so we did not have a lot that needed to be accomplished on Monday.
Early in the day I ran into a Talya Dodson, a female racer from Truckee Ca who is planning to ride the entire race by herself! How hard core is that? This will be her second time to ride the race solo. She figures it will take her nearly 36 hours to get all the way to La Paz. Needless to say the trip will have to include a few extended rest stops along the way.
Talya has a brand new, never been ridden, KTM 530xcw that she is planning to race. As the bike has no break in mileage yet, we decided to head out and get some trail time with her. So basically it was a perfect excuse to get a little riding time in. We did a nice loop up towards the pine forest, as to stay away from the race course traffic. After a little time adjusting the suspension and getting the jetting dialed in, it looks like the 530 is close to ready.
Today we expect the KTM box vans and race bike to show up around noon and then we will head out with David Pearson to get a little break in time on the bike and then shoot some photos.
