Mexico road side rebuild
After an intensive week in Mexico, that included at least one night with little or no sleep. We are finally home and trying to get things a little organized again. After two long days of driving from La Paz back to San Diego, Davey Kamo and I were out the door the first thing Wednesday morning to head out and spend a little time trials riding with the crew from Beta. Plenty of other friends were out too.
Watching the likes of Cody Webb and Colton Hakker ride around the Motoventures compound was pretty amazing. For me trials is just another one of those things that I wish I had more time to learn. Basically I am terrible at it. Of course I don’t know if I have ever had so much fun being bad at something. It really is a kick to do. At the end of the day I was just getting a little bit of the feel for things, but then I was getting tired and had accomplished about as much as I could do for one day.
I got a 5, is that good?
I still have a garage full of bikes and gear that need my attention, let alone all the things I need to sit down and write-up. But now it is time to get the van loaded to head up to Gorman for the VCMC Qualifier on Sunday. I am going to ride my 450xc and let Davey take a go on the 350xc-f. We have to drop by and see Javier at Trail Tricks, he has just put a new SX style cam in the 450 so I am anxious to ride it.
Speaking of Javier, I think he will have his conversion bike ready for us to test also. He is mounting a 450xc (RFS) motor into a new generation 450sx-f frame. He has spent a bunch of time figuring out the weight distribution to get the feel correct. Unlike the Dirt Tricks conversion, he has lowered the motor in the frame. By using the short stroke motor he has eliminated the need to cut and section the frame to get clearance for the exhaust.
Speaking of new bikes, the next generation KTM four strokes will arrive some time in June. I have an invite to ride one at the press intro so I am pretty excited about also.
As you may have seen here previously, I have started testing the Beta 450rr. After some time on it I was really having issues with the suspension package. After some discussion with the boys at Beta, they decided to take the bike back and give the suspension a complete inspection to see if the bike has some sort of mechanical issue. I know there have been some quality control issues with the Marzocchi forks lately. So we have put that project on hold for the moment.
I want to get started making some plans for ADV riding in the summer. I am going to wrap up the Honda XR650L project bike for MotorcycleUSA. That bike is in Oregon right now but will be back in a couple of weeks.
Does someone want to come clean the garage?
So I have plenty on my plate for the moment. Yes, I know, we should all have it so rough. But for the moment I have to get back out to the garage and get things loaded so we can get out of here first thing in the morning. For those of you coming to Gorman, we will see you there.
