Don Boespflug – Top American at 2011 Erzberg
Don Boespflug tackled 2011 Erzberg Rodeo
I sent a call out looking for some info on the top finishing American rider from this years Erzberg event. Jon Heerkens answered the call with this link. It is from the 2010 event. Don rode last year as well. Anyway it is a pretty nice piece done by the Portland Examiner. I think you will enjoy it.
If anyone out there knows Don, I would love to hear more about his exploits. You can read more about my buddy Mike Sigety, who also rode, over at ThumperTalk.
Here is the note I recieved from Jon. He raced the Rodeo also this year.
My name is Jon Heerkens and I was the 3rd american over at Erzberg last week. Unfortunatley I did not make the main event finishing 833rd in the prolog race. I ended up with a 250 and was supposed to get a 300 which I ride in the states. That and my sudden appearance of a self preservation gene prevented my from getting a top 500 spot.
You asked if anyone knew Don Beosplug, I contacted him after getting my start number last december. He raced it last year and wanted to do it again. He hooked me up with KTM Braumandl and we both rented bikes from them. He is a 45 year old man from Seattle and is made of iron. Real nice guy and a lifelong motocross racer, here is a link that was in his local newspaper from last year, which tells more about him.
I was also pitted in the KTM tent along with Mike Sigety. I am a 52 year old amatuer rider and wanted to fulfill a bucket list item. I had a blast and KTM treated me like gold since I entered into their KTM race service program.
