Day 5 Morning – Thankful we woke up to sunshine today and it definitely has made a difference in attitudes this morning. Everyone was laughing and joking with each other over breakfast. Tests 1 and 6, the ski slope has been removed from the schedule today after racers were struggling with going down it yesterday.- (team FB post)
Unofficial results are coming in with all of the tests complete for the day. Special tests 1 and 6 were canceled for the day leaving a total of 5 to run. Top American Kurt Caselli stays on form, winning the last test. But as on previous days, he had one bad test, dropping over 20 seconds to the leaders.
At the top, nothing changes for the day. Remes, Salminen and Tarkkala fill the podium. Caselli is fourth for the day and remains in fourth overall. Overall the trophy team comes home with all 5 riders again today. Russell Bobbitt is second fastest of the US squad, followed by Nate Kanney. Abbott slips a little in the standings, he is now 18th in the E2 class.US remains in third place in the team standings.
The big news of the day is the loss of Cory Buttrick on the Junior team.Word is that he lost the tranny in his KTM. He had been having another strong day up through the penultimate test. Andrew Delong had another very good day as the fastest US team Junior rider. Despite having a miserable week in general and getting injured yesterday, Ian Blythe rode very well, finishing two minutes down to Delong on the day. Cody Shafer was just just another 30 seconds back. So as the team, the Juniors hold on to their 4th place position in the standings.
It looks like all the club riders have made it in for the day. Fred Hoess leads the way for the US club pilots, followed by Max Gerston. Jake Vainio clearly had some trouble today, dropping from 16th all the way back to 33rd in the C3 class. Brent Martell moved up a couple of positions, as did Dennis Decker.
On a side note, at the ISDE there is also a Manufacturer team trophy competition. The KTM 1 team of Remes, Caselli and Christobal Guerrero lead that class by a whooping 40 minutes.

Todays Rider Comments
Destry Abbott- Finished day 5! Pretty much did what I was planning today. Wasn’t going to push it to hard and played it safe today to make sure I was able to bring it in to the finish. We’re (USA Trophy Team) looking good for pulling off a podium finish. I should get a gold medal as long as I finish the final moto too! This has been a tough ISDE (mentally and physically for me). I’ve had a lot going on and I’ll write my race story when I get back home!
Brent Martell- Day 5 was by far the easiest day. Still tough in some regards because we still road almost 200 miles and the wear and tear on the bikes and bodies was showing up. I was super fatigued and stiff today. Fortunately they didn’t test on the ski hill, or what we call the water park. 4 tests today. Done. I moved up to 26th.
Bob Heinzerling- Day 4 and 5 are done and I’m still running. Rained all day again yesterday, 240 or so miles in the rain is no fun. The tests that looked really fun when we walked them turned out to be disasters with the amount of rain we received. So bad that they cut one of them out for the next day. Today was a good day, sunny and nice all day. Final Moto is tomorrow then we’re done
Colton Udall- Finished day 5!! I finally felt good on the last 2 special tests! I’m icing my bruised up legs so I can race tomorrow!
Jeff Fredette- tests went good today but have been holding back to get around the tests in a tall gear and low throttle so i dont get stopped at the end of the day for being to loud.
scores hurt a little but no risk of a dnf! tomorrow is just 20miles and a moto. not the best moto’r but will do my best. thanks to all for all the support!
