Breaking News– It looks like testing has been going so well on the new bike that Dungey and KTM have decided to race this weekends Monstercross thing in Las Vegas. With a million dollars up for grabs, why not. It is an excellent opportunity for the whole team to get a full race test before having to jump into the 2012 Supercross series. Plus, it was starting to look like Ryan Villapoto was going to have a free shot at the million dollar purse with no real competition. So bring on the RV – RD rematch!
For lack of any better name, this is just called “The Dungey bike”. Officially, the only thing KTM will even say about it is that it is a 450. But as you can clearly see, the next generation of KTM motocrossers will be based upon the newest single cam, fuel injected motor that recently debuted in the 2012 450/500xc-w models.
So Dungey is racing an enduro bike? Well for all we know, maybe it is. Whatever trick things that might be hiding inside the cases is pure speculation at this point. Really the only external differences are the machined ignition side cover and the addition of a head stay. As for the frame, it looks similar the current generation of sx-f bikes, but the motors don’t share any mounting similarities, so it too is all new.
Word is that this frame and motor package will probably be available to a few of the factory off road racers next year, but only on a very limited basis. Based on that, my guess would be Mullins and Brownie. If KTM goes to Baja next year, they will use the current gen sx-f to have the dependability of the carb instead of fuel injection.
So here is a close up look at some of the details of the new 2013(?) KTM 450sx-f
