Chilly’s Blog – It Has Its Moments
Kate's Tram Bar and other goodies
After two weeks of racing, it is time to step back and head off to Mexico for a little more relaxing activity. This coming week I have the opportunity to help guide the Tucker Rocky/MSR Dealer ride in Baja. So that should be pretty cool. I get to ride with Malcolm and Alexander Smith along with the rest of their crew. Jimmy Sones invited my to come help lay out some of the routes and we have been down working on that. As with much of what I do, it is all pro bono, but it is the kind of experience that is hard to say no to.
It is amazing to watch how the web site is growing. In some ways it has a life of its own. But in others it is a demanding mistress that wants my constant attention. While there are a few days when I just have to walk away from the computer, for the most part I love doing it. The word is really getting around and a much wider circle of viewers are tuning in. With that, many in the industry are viewing us with a more serious eye. Just this week, our Ryan Dungey interview got linked on Vitalmx.com and Supercross.com, bringing a whole new group of visitors to the site.
It is sometimes amusing to see how industry people react to me and the site. On one hand there are often more motorcycles offered than I can possibly test. It seems like an odd problem, but if I want to do it correct, I have to keep to a scale that I can manage.
Now, while bikes are relatively easy to get. I have times when I ask for gear or product to test and I am treated like a beggar. Incredibly, it is easier to get someone to lend me their $9k motorcycle than it is to get a pair of goggles or a chest protector. It just seems crazy sometimes.
But it is nice to keep meeting new people in the offroad community. They are almost universally great people. It does have its perks. This week the UPS man showed up at my door with a care package from Kate’s Real Food. If you have never had the chance to try her “Tram Bar”, you are missing a real treat. It is a great tasting meal in a bar. She has some new stuff that she sent too, so I will test the other flavors next week. http://katesrealfood.com/
Testing is rough work, but someone has to do it! If you see me out-and-about, say hi and don’t be shy about telling me what you would like to see on the site.
