David Pearson – 2011 BITD Champion
Purvines Racing David Pearson wins 2011 Best in the Desert championship
I want to take a minute to give a shout out to David Pearson for winning the Best In The Desert championship this year. David moved to the Purvines Racing Honda team the 2011 season to race the National Hare & Hound series as well as the BITD desert series. David also had the opportunity to ride on the Bonanza Plumbing/THR/Precision Concepts Kawasaki for the SCORE Baja 1000.
Coming into the last race of the year, the Henderson 250, David just needed a solid finish to tie up the series win. Starting third off the line, he quickly got past Jerry Parsons to move into second position. The Henderson course was smooth and fast. Some of the sections were actually graded. Starting just after 6 am, it was still more or less dark for the first section. ” The whole first lap was like racing the Adelanto Gran Prix in the dark”, said Dave. Speed averages for the race were something over 60mph. The leaders crossed the finish line of the 135 mile event around 8:20am.
The THR Kawasaki duo of Shane Esposito and Robby Bell led the race. Shane still had a chance to win the championship if David has any problems. They would maintain the physical lead, but with David close behind the entire way. ” I basically soloed the race, I had Carl Massberg signed up as my partner, but he was really just in reserve in case I had some issue or if my hands got too cold” commented David.
Positions remained the same to the end, with the Espo and Bell team taking the win. Pearson followed in second to secure the championship. David tells me he expects to return for the 2012 season with Purvines Racing. The team will be switching to Kawasaki’s. David is on deck for the National Hare & Hound series again, as well as Best In The Desert. He hopes that a Baja program will also come together.
