So there you go, just another day at the office for Kurt Caselli. David Pearson was second, a couple of minutes back and he was followed closely by JCR Honda’s Davey Kamo. Destry Abbott finished fourth. He had been running second but lost the rear brake late in the race and had to give up a couple of spots.

  • Being the first race of the year, there were lots of riders and a few new faces that came to the start line. One of those was Jimmy Jarrett, it was his first ever desert race. Jimmy got off to a slow start. I know because we were three or four miles past the end of the bomb when he came by me. Jimmy finished about 25th overall.
  • Women’s champion Shayla Fulfer crashed on the first loop. She took a trip to the hospital, but was soon sent on her way, just a little bruised up.
  • Keep an eye out for Skyler Howes this season, he put up some good results last year and looks to be on pace for improvement this year.
  • Jake Argubright also crashed on the first loop and suffered a broken collar bone.

  1. Is Kurt Caselli riding the Factory Edition (Dungey) 450SX-F, or is he sticking with the older version 450 which he probably is very comfortable with and has setup already worked out for?

  2. Chilly says:

Great question. Kurt is riding the “old” twin cam 450sx-f. So far they have no plans on switching. I think he told me he is actually riding the same bike he finished last season on.

The new single cam bikes are in short supply and KTM has to get X amount out on the market to meet AMA moto homologation rules.

The 2012 Baja bike will be a twin cam motor, so this keeps Kurt on similar machines for everything he races.

  3. After a bit of searching, I found the KTM press release in which he says “I feel very comfortable on my bike. I am lucky to be riding the same model we raced last season so we have a pretty good set-up already and had to make minimal changes during the off-season,”
    Thanks for the reply

  7. Dean says:

    It’s Trivia time…

Q: What do Kurt Casseli, David Pearson, and Davey Kamo all have in common??

A: Bonanza Plumbing sponsored all three riders on three different brands of motorcycles 2011. Caselli at the San Felipe 250 on a KTM, Pearson at the Baja 1000 on a Kawasaki, Kamo at Vegas to Reno on a Husky.
