Ok, so we got on the subject riding motorcycles at high altitude last week, talking about the Husaberg Adventure guys in Chile. They were starting their trip in La Serena, site of the 2007 ISDE. It is a beautiful place. A “Pre-Rider” for the US team I spent three days riding the Six Day course before the race. It was probably way more fun that the race because much of the course deteriorated into a silty mess after two days of racing. For me I got to ride my bike around the Chilean country side for over a week and it was awesome. But I could see that there were far more cool places still to explore.
Anyway, Joe Bonello sent me over these pics for his trip in the Himilaya’s riding Indian Enfields up to 18,000 and beyond near the China border. So I figured I should share them with everyone. – Chilly
I don’t know how to post photos on your site, but here are a few pics from our trip to India. That is Frank Whigham, MXSENIOR, in the orange/tan jacket, tour leader, who I met at the ISDE in New Zealand. One shot is Frank and Manish Chakra at “only” 16,200 feet, with the truck passing by. The shot of the Enfield at Chardungla is at 18,500 ft, the highest navigable road in the World. It’s also the border of Northern India, and that’s China in the background. Actually it is an easy ride up a long fireroad just north of the city of Leih, bitchen place! It was the last day of our trip and the ride all the way down was a bit sad. A beautiful country and beautiful people. Anyone that wants to go, contact Manish Chakra at Soul Trails Adventures, you will be forever grateful!
