Great weather again today. I rode the first half of the sportsman (hobby) course. There were a few struggles out there, but for the most part the hobby course is like a great trail ride. One section of alpine side hill got a few riders as they lost track and toppled down hill.
My mousse took a dump today. Now when I first got here, I told them this thing was bad. But they went to great lengths to educate me on the proper use of a mousse, as I mentioned before. Apparently they figured I really didn’t know much about how these things work. Well yesterday, mounted up in a fresh tire, it was pretty good.
This morning we had a short 20 mile liason and it trashed it. With a 13t sprocket, I can only cruise about 59mph, so it wasn’t like melting one in Baja. Anyway, that was it. I had to ride the entire off road section with little or no tire. Fortunate that I had two rimlocks in or it never would have made it. It wasn’t too bad except on the side hill, the tire would roll half way off the rim and I had to push it in sections.
Nevertheless, it was a good day. We fell way behind as some of my riding partners struggled. I had hoped to ride the entire course, but only made it to the service area. We did not have much signal today, so I needed to stop and get my posts up on the Romaniacs site anyway.
I did have one good challenging section right at the end. Had to lift the bike up over some logs on a bad side hill and in thick brush. Not a place to fall over downhill, because the brush might catch you, but there would be no getting the bike up.
It was very much just like another day at Idaho City. Up one drainage, across the mountain and then down another drainage.
Here are a few pics. I have some GoPro to try and upload. Hope my mates make it in, hopefully they took the road and missed the bad part at the end.
