Well, if I have my translation correct, this is big news. An all new four stroke Gasser for 2013, in the form of a 300.
Here in the US, Husqvarna has been trying very hard to convince everyone that this is the hot ticket for a displacement choice. Admittedly, for Husky the 310 series is very popular, although part of that might be attributed to their struggles in other areas of the displacement range. The 310 is be far the product they are proudest of.
On the other side of the ocean, Sherco has been making waves with their 300 four stoke also. This the Spanish maker whose founders got their start by defecting from Gas Gas a decade ago. You can bet the boys over at Salt (GG) are always keeping a close watch on everything from Sherco.
So it looks like they have decided to jump on the 300 bandwagon. There is no official word on details of this model, but it clearly looks to be derived from a Yamaha motor. Gas Gas has been using the older WR motors to power the 250 and 450 models for a couple of years now. These bikes use the older generation frame. In this photo it difficult to see much of the frame.
The bad news is that Gas Gas’ agreement with Yamaha forbids selling any of these four stroke products in the US. I wonder if the increase in displacement is enough to allow all that to change?
