Chilly’s Home For Wayward RFS Bikes
A new (not so new) motorcycle followed me home yesterday. One more to add to the collection (pile) in the shop.
New-to-me 2006 KTMexc
Actually I am hoping this turns out to be a good one. It is a little rough around the edges. It has been sitting in the salt air for a while and suffers from chronic corrosion. But I have lots of new (not new, but better) parts that I can use to replace the worst ones. It does come with a brand new set of tires and chain.
This is a 2006 525 exc, one of the better years and more desirable models for the RFS bikes. It runs, but not very well at the moment. It shows all the signs of having a clogged pilot jet (or worn out top end). But the odo reads 137 hours, so if that is correct, we should be in good shape. The seller claims it got a new top end and valves from Ron Bishop a few years ago and has not seen much action since then.
The best news, is that it does not show much sign of hard use, just a little neglect. So give me a day of elbow grease and tuning and I should have this baby ready to chew up some Baja miles.
The famous Enduro360 RFS collection. Would you buy a used bike from this guy? Looking at this picture, it is funny to think that perhaps my favorite bike to ride is the ’92 250exc!
