Laia Sanz Struggles With Bike Problems
Broken Oil Line on Stage 9 Dakar For Laia Sanz
Monday – The ninth and longest stage of the Dakar between Tucumán and Córdoba was the most complicated for Laia Sanz and all of Gas Gas Team Dakar. The rider from Corbera de Llobregat was in the leading group and went through the first three control points in the top 25, but before reaching the neutral, the oiling system broke allowing the escape of engine oil. Luckily, she was reached by the backpacker, Miguel Puertas 14 minutes later to help solve this problem. After several attempts to fix Laia’s bike, the team decided that she should stay with Miguel Puertas until the end of the stage. Laia, who was in the 29th position before this fateful day, has lost many hours but is still in the race because, among other things, the spirit of the team, the professionalism of the backpacker and the entire team structure of the GasGas brand in the Dakar race. The Gas Gas rider knows that reaching Santiago de Chile she will be crowned champion for the third consecutive year in the female category, as her rival Josefina Gardulsky had to drop-out yesterday because of a fire in her bike. On arrival, the Gas Gas Dakar Team worked to replace the engine and was even penalized 15 minutes, at the start of the 394 km tenth stage going from Cordoba to La Rioja.
Meanwhile, Marc Guasch continues his comeback with his Gas Gas EC 450 Raid and finished the stage in an extraordinary 21st position which places him in the 27th position overall. Marc thus becomes the second ranked Spanish rider in the standings.
