Factory FMF/KTM – Charlie Mullins earned his second victory of the season at the second round of the AMA National Enduro Series after winning 5 of the 6 special tests.
Mullins arrived at the location full of confidence as he was fresh off a win from the opening round. Mullins tied for the win in the first special test and went on to win the next four in a row after that. Heading into the final test he had a 1 minute and nearly 30 second lead over the rest of the field.
“I was definitely feeling confident today and my KTM 350 XC-F has been working perfectly so far this season,” remarked Mullins. “Unfortunately, I suffered two small crashes in the final test that kept me from earning a solid time in that section. After the crashes, I told myself to just relax and ride in safe so I could take home the win.”
Mullins did make it back safely to earn his second win of the season. He now leads the overall point standings by 19 points heading to the third round of the series.
Husaberg – Factory rider Mike Lafferty finished 2nd overall at the second round of the AMA National Enduro Series to earn his first podium finish of the season. His Husaberg teammates, Russell Bobbitt and Nick Fahringer, placed 4th and 5th respectively to round out the top five.
The Sandlapper Enduro marked second time this season that three Husaberg riders have been in the top five. “We are very excited with the performance of all of our Husaberg riders,” remarked Husaberg Factory Team Manager Antti Kallonen. “Each one is riding exceptionally well and we hope to see each of them on the podium numerous times throughout the season.”
Lafferty had a great result at the Sandlapper after switching to the FE350. “I have been riding the four-stroke a bunch at home and in local enduros and I feel more comfortable on it for this season,” stated Lafferty. “I have more confidence on the machine and I feel it is the bike to be on for the remainder of the enduros.”
Lafferty proved his point after he tied Charlie Mullins for the first special test win. He then went on to earn two more top three results throughout the remaining special tests to earn the runner-up spot for the day. Bobbitt also had a good run, finishing inside the top three on three different tests and tying for the win on the final test. Unfortunately, a bad crash in the fifth test cost him a lot of time and kept him off of the podium. Fahringer was the final member of the Husaberg squad that put in some impressive rides to eventually finish 5th for the day.
After two rounds, Lafferty and Fahringer are now tied for 2nd place in the point standings while Bobbitt is just 2 points behind them in 3rd.
Shenandoah Honda – Round 2 of the Rekluse AMA National Enduro Series was held in Sally, SC (Sandlapper Enduro). Team Shenandoah Honda/USWE-sports.com rider Thad DuVall has been spending most of this recent time in Florida preparing for the GNCC opener next week at River Ranch. Practicing tight woods and getting in shape paid of this weekend with a well earned third place Overall.
With some cold temperature on Saturday, Sunday turned out to be a perfect day for racing. Test one gave DuVall a fifth place, 13 seconds slower then winner Mullins. DuVall: “ I had a hard time getting going in the first test, I couldn’t get into a grove”. The following tests was better with a 2nd and a 4th place, keeping him contention for a podium.
Test 4 and 5 were solid with a 3rd and a 5th, making the the last and final test very important to finish on the podium with just 5 second separating him from Bobbitt in 4th. The last test was 13 miles long and DuVall was able to win it and secure third place. DuVall: “I had fun today. The bike (Honda 250) worked really good and I had no issues at all today. I like the longer sections and I felt good racing the last 13 miles. To win one of these, I have to be more aggressive from the start and be consistent”.
DuVall will now travel back to Florida, where he will get ready for round 1 of the GNCC on Tuesday March 12.
