Quinn Cody Prepares For Qatar Rally
Qatar Sealine Rally 2013
The Speedbrain Rally Team is preparing for the Qatar Sealine Rally 2013. As temperatures in the Arab emirate soar above 40 degrees celcius the German squad led by team principal Wolfgang Fischer is looking forward to the second round of the FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship and to post another top result. The Sealine Rally offers a total race distance of 1,500 kilometres and, in contrast to the opener in Abu Dhabi, some stoney desert sections.
The race gets underway on Tuesday (23 April), consisting of four stages until Friday. The organisers have changed the profile of the course for this year´s second edition. The debut event in 2012 had seen the Speedbrain team take several stage wins, now the goal is to be a front-runner in the overall classification. Portugal´s Paulo Goncalves and Quinn Cody are the riders aboard their “Speedbrain 450 Rally” machines, while Spaniard Joan Barreda is taking a break to recover from a hand injury.
34-year-old Goncalves is starting the race lying second in the world championship standings. Team newcomer Quinn Cody is flying the Speedbrain flag for the first time. The American is approaching his first desert rally since the Dakar 2012.
Quinn Cody:“I´m happy to be here and to begin the race for my new team, after my severe femur injury and the early withdrawal from the Dakar in 2012. I was able to get a little familiar with the bike yesterday and I´m pumped how it feels. I will use the race to find my rhythm, to further feel home on the bike and to practice the navigation.”
Team principal Wolfgang Fischer:“We aim to continue where we left two weeks ago in Abu Dhabi. There´s some unfinished business here at the Sealine from a year ago and we´re eager to post a strong result. I´m delighted to finally have Quinn Cody line up alongside Paulo.”
