The Klim Revolt pullover was one of those instant classics. It was such a simple concept, a lightweight layer for those days when a real jacket was not needed. It was the perfect choice for those first hours of the day before the sun warmed everything, or as a back up when getting caught out too late. The light nylon construct allowed it to be stored in even the smallest of backpack locations.
Mine never leaves my backpack, it is part of my permanent kit. It also serves as an important extra layer in the winter. The windstop quality is great when one extra layer is needed between the jersey and jacket. Many of my riding pals who don’t wear Klim gear have one of these, just because it is so useful.
For 2013 nearly the entire Klim off road line is revamped, including the Revolt Pullover. I was somewhat concerned, as I hoped they hadn’t messed up a good thing. After a few rides, I can say that I am happy with the new product. It has changed its focus some, but overall is probably even more useful.
The construction is considerably more sophisticated. The new nylon shell breathes better and now has a mesh lining. The old version did not handle sweat well and became sticky. There are reinforced areas for the elbow and shoulder. The wrist now has a Velcro closure instead of elastic. At the neck line there is a suede comfort lining. The zippered front is still large enough to allow it to pull on and off over a helmet.
The Revolt is now closer to a lightweight jacket and should be comfortable over a wider variety of conditions. With the flat black finish and additional comfort from the lining and breathable material, the Revolt is now a great casual wear jacket also. All spring I have found myself wearing it around the house and in the shop. That is something I never did with the old version. It might be the ultimate multi-tasker now.
Thumps up on this one.
