2013 Baja Beach Bash Day 1 – photo updates
Beach Bash Starts With Bang
I know I just got home from Romania, but after a few days of laying around and getting myself rested up, I decided yesterday to get ready for Baja and ride the 2013 Beach Bash. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. This morning I loaded the Sherco up and made the short drive to Tecate. There I unloaded and rode about 115 miles solo to meet up with the rest of the group in Santo Tomas. There are about 60 riders with the group this year. Included are Johnny Campbell, Quinn Cody, Destry Abbott and Laia Sanz. I have waited for the opportunity to meet Laia for a long time, so I couldn’t pass this one up.
Today was a short day with lots of playing around and generally having a great time. Once the big boys decided to try some tricky climbs, off the beach, up the rocks and up the hill, it soon became clear who the king of the hill is – Laia! She made everyone else look rather silly. Quinn and Destry both had some spectacular get offs trying to match her. Destry banged the poor Kawi up rather good.
On the first “official” challenge, 10 of us made it up the big hill. Apparently this is the first of three hill climbs to choose the overall champion or something. The little 300 chugged up the hill pretty well. It did not have enough power to spin the wheel too much, just grabbed traction and chugged up.
Sorry for no pics today, I am working on public computer, hope to have some tomorrow. I think I have some really good ones. So signing out for today – Chilly
