The final round of the 2013 X Games Enduro X competition happens this Sunday in Los Angeles. It will be broadcast live on TV. We will be on hand to catch all the action and hopefully spend some time with the riders. I think it is safe to say that the action will be equally strong in both the men’s and women’s classes. Coverage will start at 12 noon (pst) Sunday on ABC.
Mens Enduro X – Destry Abbott, Geoff Aaron, Jake Argubright, Chris Birch, Taddy, David Broderick, Mike Brown, Ricky Dietrich, Max Gerston, Alfredo Gomez, Cory Graffunder, Colton Haaker, David Knight, Jamie Lanza, Wally Palmer, Bobby Prochnau, Kyle Redmond, Eric Rhoten, Taylor Robert, Ryan Sandoval, Justin Soule, Gary Southerlin, Ty Tremaine, Cody Webb
Womens Enduro X – Chantelle Bykerk, Maria Forsberg, Louise Forsley, Maria Franke, Tarah Geiger, Ratchel Gutish, Sandra Gomez, Kacy Martinez, Lexi Pechout, Laia Sanz, Shelby Turner
As for my picks, that is tough to say. Clearly Taddy and Brownie are the obvious front runners. But there are so many other riders that have shown they can run in front too. Taylor Robert, Colton Haaker and Cody Webb are the next most likely to do well. Also keep and eye out for Factory Husaberg rider Alfredo Gomez. He is still learning the skills of extreme racing and getting faster each time out. He is a former 125 world trials champion.
Other notes: Cody Webb is just coming back from a broken foot, Jake Argubright will be racing a TM, Extreme Enduro rider Chris Birch has struggled with the speed of the EX format, hopefully he will have better race this time.
In the women’s class it will surely be a battle between Sanz and Forsberg. Laia has been training with Colton Haaker and JCR Honda for the last two weeks. I am sure she has learned much about the racing aspect of EX in that time. As for Maria, she will be keen to put on a good show for the home crowd as the defending champion.
Here are a few team reports:
Beta Factory racer Cody Webb has confirmed that he will race the ESPN X Games Endurocross this weekend at the Staples center in Los Angeles. The young Californian recently broke his foot while practicing which forced him to sit out of the last round in Germany as well as the first rounds of the National Mototrial series.
“I am really looking forward to getting back to the races and using X Games LA for my return. This has been the longest I’ve ever been off the bike and it made me realize how badly I want to ride again. I feel like I’ve put in all the necessary work to stay in tip top shape while still being injured. It’s unfortunate that I’ve missed most of the trials series, but I’m excited to be back and make my return.” Webb explains.
Webb will join his teammate Max Gerston and will be riding his Factory Beta 300 RR while Gerston will be on his 350 RR 4 stroker. The two have had solid results this year and are looking to put their Beta’s on the podium.
This Sunday Jacob Argubright will pilot a TM EN300 at the ESPN X Games, and in doing so will make history as the first TM rider to ever compete in an X Games event. Riding for Western Designs TM, Argubright looks to continue his success since accepting the “Endurocross only” ride for 2013.
“Basically I was on my own for the Endurocross series this year. Woody and Cheryl from Western Design knew of my situation from the Hare and Hound series, and offered to help me out. TM provided the bikes, and Western Design-along with all of my other sponsors- are keeping me racing,” Jacob explained.
After only a selected list of events on the Italian made EN300 2-stroke, Argubright has already turned some heads on the not-so-ordinary TM machine. Earning podium finishes at the Herriman Enduro and Juab Extreme Enduro’s with a Third and Second respectively, Argubright and the EN300 have been a good fit. On top of good finishes at these two regional Endurocross events, Argubright physically won an LCQ race in Sacramento giving TM its first EVER main event appearance at the 2013 Sacramento Endurocross event.
“The EN300 is really a great Endurocross bike. It is strong, light weight, and unlike most 4-stroke will start every time. TM has really been great to me, and even though they are such a small company here in the states, parts have been very easy to come by.” Argubright continued, “I really think that this bike is what I need to qualify for the main at every round. We missed the first one because of a Hare and Hound, but looking forward at the schedule I am expecting to hit the rest of the Endurocross series on my EN300.”
RPM team Riders competing this Sunday in Los Angeles are, Kyle Redmond, Ty Tremaine and Bobby Prochnau who will race for Gold alongside the World’s best inside the Staples arena of the infamous downtown location. Kyle Redmond has produced some great results at the international rounds this year; going 8- 6- 6.
In the Women’s Enduro X event, there will be an equal amount of competition for the heavily stacked Women’s exhibition. Chantelle Bykerk and Kacy Martinez will take on their fourth and final X Games of 2013, while Louise Forsley will make her debut. After having to endure a lengthy recovery, Forsley is healed and ready to jump on the line.
