Here is a quick race report and results from KTM, stay tuned for my photos and commentary
From KTM – Red Bull/KTM rider Taddy Blazusiak took the win at the X-Games Men’s EnduroX in Los Angeles; his second X-Games gold medal of the year. His teammate, Factory FMF/KTM rider Mike Brown, put in an impressive ride to finish second and take home the silver medal.
In his heat race, from an inside gate, Blazusiak jumped out front quickly to take the holeshot. Blazusiak led all six laps of his heat race to easily transfer to the main event. Brown also had a great start to his heat, taking the early lead after the first corner. With a four-way battle behind him, Brown put his head down and gained a substantial lead to finish first and transfer to the main.
In the main event, it was Blazusiak who grabbed the holeshot with Brown and Taylor Robert in tow. Blazusiak started to feel the pressure of Mike Brown as the two riders came into the matrix section side by side on lap three. After a slight mistake by Brown, Blazusiak was able to stretch out his lead for the remaining laps. At the conclusion of the race, Blazusiak crossed the finish line first and claimed the 2013 X-Games LA Men’s EnduroX gold.
Meanwhile, Brown was on the gas and catching Blazusiak, only to have a small crash in the rock section, sending him back to fourth. Brown quickly picked himself up and made the pass on Cody Webb for third before exiting the water obstacle. He then got around the second place rider of Colton Haaker in the fire wood and set to work on Blazusiak. Brown was gaining on Blazusiak with two laps to go, but was unable to make a pass. Brown finished the race with a well-deserved second place and silver medal.
At the final stop of the Global X-Games tour, Blazusiak is proud to walk away with one final medal. “I am feeling the best I’ve felt all year coming into this race,” commented Blazusiak. “The track was really different than what we’re used to, but I was very prepared and I’m happy to leave with a gold medal.”
KTM also had a great showing in the Women’s EnduroX class, taking both the silver and bronze medal. KTM support rider Tarah Gieger got the holeshot to take the early lead and Factory FMF/KTM rider Maria Forsberg in the mix with a fourth place start. Gieger suffered multiple crashes in the next laps moving back as far as fifth at one point. However, Gieger was able to put her motocross skills into play, by doubling through the rhythm sections and making up time on her competitors. Forsberg eventually moved up into second place on lap 4, but was never able to make a pass on the first place rider of Laia Sanz. Forsberg crossed the checkers in second place with Geiger finishing third.
