Road Trip Stop – Kate’s Real Food (and riding)
Kate’s Real Food
Kate’s Real Food
As part of our loop through Eastern Idaho, we also made a call at Kate’s Real Food in Victor. I first met Kate Schade very briefly at the Idaho City qualifier back in 2009. She was walking through the pits handing out samples of her “Tram Bar”, her first energy bar. As I recall she gave Neena and I each one. We tested one and I saved the second one for race day. I was impressed with both the flavor and texture of the bar. It was soft enough to chew and just firm enough to stay together.
Later Kate became a regular reader of Enduro360 and started hooking me up with her delicious creations. My favorite is the Stash bar (peanut butter & dark chocolate). But all the flavors have some nice qualities and variations on the chewy granola bar formula. I have had lots of early mornings in Baja when a bar and cup of coffee had to serve as breakfast for a long day of riding.
Kate and I email regularly and follow each others adventures online. But I had never really got the chance to spend any time with her or visit her facility. So we scheduled a meet up and ride day. Some of the gang from KLIM came along to join the fun. They are just over an hour away in Rigby. We took a quick tour of the manufacturing facility where the bars are produced and then loaded up to go riding.
Living in somewhere like the small town of Victor Idaho certainly has its advantages. We started our ride right out the back door of Kate’s house. With lots of daylight, we were able to get 3 hours of riding in and still be back before dark for a cold beer and some BBQ.
So if you get a chance, check out Kate’s goodies at
