I have arrived in Quito Ecuador in preparation for this weekend’s race, Ukupacha Extreme Enduro. It was a relatively easy flight; three hours to Houston from San Diego, a quick connection and then four hours to Quito. It was certainly easier than many other places I have been this year. With an 11pm arrival time it was easy to get some sleep and be fresh to go this morning.
I am at the home of the organizer Sebastian Cisnersos today. Last night I arrived along with Jonny Walker and Alfredo Gomez. So Alfredo and I are just hanging out right now. We will get around to see the shop where his Husaberg awaits in a little while. This will probably be the last race for Graham and Alfredo on the Bergs. But they have not actually ridden the new Husqvarna’s yet either.
I got a quick look at the bike I will be racing this morning. Sebastian has “volunteered” his own KTM 350exc for me to ride. It has an Athena 365cc kit in it and looks to be pretty well set up. It has a Tubliss set up right now. I brought mousses, but Sebastian tells me he has lots of time (on the race course) with the Tubliss and it will be the hot set up. So we shall see.
The weather is mild, with chances of light rain. Conditions for race day should be just about perfect. So that is about all the news for now. We are having a big dinner with all the riders tonight so I should get a chance to talk with everyone else then. Chilly
