Looking like his old self, Taddy Blazusiak grabbed the holeshot at X Games and spent most of the event controlling the pace from the lead. Mike Brown was briefly in the lead on the first lap but went down in the rocks. He would go down a second time and call it a day. Colton Haaker was the one who gave the best chase. For most of the main event he hounded Taddy around, even getting close enough to put a wheel in. But Colton made a bad line choice in traffic, getting stopped and letting Webb and Gomez past.
Webb was only near the front in the final laps, having gotten a good start but then lost time on the ground also. Alfredo Gomez was right in the top three for the entire event. He looked like the most improved rider, challenging the moto guys on the fast jump style track. His best previous result came last year on a very muddy track where he could use his trials skills.
Max Gerston never got any TV time, but obviously rode a clean race for what I believe is a best ever finish also. Taddy was running his #111 plate instead of the AMA #1, I wonder if that is good luck for him?
Kacy Martinez ran away with the women’s class. She looked smooth and composed the entire event. Gomez sibling Sandra finished second followed by recent high school graduate Rachel Gutish. My pick for the women, Emma Bristow had a poor start and was near dead last at one point but raced her way back to finish sixth.
