Outlaw Racing Carburetor Kit Review
KTM Carburetor Rebuild Kit
I am always needing little parts for the Keihin carbs on my bikes. Nearly every used bike I pick up has something wrong in the carb. The most common issue is the o-ring missing from the mixture screw. If you work on these much, you know it can be a challenge to find some of those tiny parts in stock at the local dealer. You can buy them direct from Sudco, but that requires a minimum order. I think it was $25 last time.
While cruising through Amazon, I happened across this kit advertised as a complete rebuild for most KTM models – Outlaw Racing #OR2534, $17.95. Considering that needles and jets are in the range of $10-$15 each, I figured it was worth a shot to see what showed up.
Here is what comes in the Kit:
brass needle, unmarked
mixture screw with spring, washer & o ring
42 pilot jet
188 main jet
180 main jet
85 starter jet
brass cap for needle set screw
unknown spring, suspect it is for needle set screw but wrong size
float bowl gasket (not pictured)
top cover gasket (not pictured)
As a complete plug and play carb kit, the package doesn’t quite make it. The main jet sizes are off. Who knows what the unmarked needle is. Brass needles get ravaged quick by the California fuel too. I don’t use such a small pilot jet. But I guess the package would work in a pinch if it was just about getting a bike on the road. While the jets are not the ideal sizes, everything should work more or less.
What it does have are a bunch of small parts that I will probably use at some point and like to have on hand as spares. Just the trip to the dealer costs me more than the package cost. So while I am not going to use it all right now, I am glad to have the spare parts on hand.
Interestingly, a very similar looking package is also available from Moose Racing for about $50. The reason I mention this, the model fitment description is exactly the same. That leads me to wonder if it is the exact same kit for a much higher price. If anyone has bought one, let us know.
