Readers often ask me various questions about the content here on the site. So I thought I would share a look at what Google Analytics says is most popular on Enduro360.
My challenge is to always find a balance between what is good, quality content, and what people will actually read. We find ourselves on the leading edge of social technology, so this is a flexible idea that is always evolving. It is like trying to hit a moving target.
Case in point – race results, you will notice that you don’t see much on this list. What used to be one of our staples has nearly vanished. ISDE and Dakar coverage were once our biggest features of the year, now the viewership is down to almost nothing. I credit two factors for this. First, social media has become the avenue to find the quickest race news. Even though I try to print same day results, working on Sunday typically. We just can’t compete.
Second, our readers have a strong west coast bias and we just don’t have very good exposure for west coast racing. The various series lack factory level competition and none of the series do a very good job of promoting themselves. If I have said it once, I have said it a hundred times, a race story has a two day life span. If we don’t have it by Tuesday morning, it is of no value because no one will read it. I look at these numbers every single day, so I know.
So what catches the kid’s attention? First and foremost is interesting news items. Anything regarding possible new designs or models is always a hit. Next comes bike reviews, they are almost always good for drawing readers. But even then it has to be a balance between what is interesting and what we might have an exclusive on. In 2014 Gas Gas EC300 was the biggest test, we had the only one in the country. Same went for KTM 690 Enduro. Obviously KTM Freeride and Beta have done quite well recently. Bike tests often perform well over a long period of time.
Then there are the Trophy Girls. The numbers speak for themselves. Seriously, some day I am going to quit doing this and just start a website of just silly pet videos and girls. It will be way less work and far more popular.
