KTM Freeride E – Electric Future
Where Will The Electric Freeride Take Us?
I am not really sure where the future lies for us and the electric Freeride. On one hand, the success of the Freeride 250r in the US has to be encouraging. It is no real surprise, the market is ripe for such a bike. Keep in mind it does not really break any new ground in a technological sense. It is almost more of a step backwards, but in a good way I guess.
The electric bike is a very different animal. Not only is it all new technology, but the concept is that it can create a new style of riding. One that gains access to riding areas that would normally be closed to motorized use. In Europe, that idea might come to pass. The creation of new electric bike only riding areas is really happening.
But their approach to land use is different than ours too. I don’t see public land managers in the states becoming receptive to this idea beyond what is already considered open for motorized use.
Then there is the big step forward and commitment for KTM dealers. This is much more than just a matter of ordering another model, it will take special equipment and training. Not that I am saying it isn’t going to happen, but KTM NA has a lot to think about before it brings the new E-bike to the US. All I really know is that I can’t wait to ride one!
