Round three of the GEICO AMA EnduroCross Series in Las Vegas, Nevada proved to be a momentous night for Geoff Aaron and Gas Gas Motorcycles. The 10-time National Trials Champion made a significant return to the podium in the EX Pro main event by riding his Gas Gas EC 300 a third-place finish in the Orleans Arena.
“I really wanted to ride strong here”, said Aaron. “Vegas has always been pretty good for me. I got new bike, new team this year. I started off a little shaky in Daytona and just really wanted to put it together. I just put my head down in the motocross sections of it and rode smooth and clean through the technical stuff and it worked out for me”.
Aaron is no stranger to the EnduroCross podium, but hadn’t been on the box since 2011. The new team and new Gas Gas EC 300 are clearly a winning combination for Aaron, as he put in a solid ride in Las Vegas. After battling his way to a qualifying position in the 3rd heat, Aaron lined up for the main event with the hopes of getting out to a good start and having a smooth and consistent ride.
“I shoved my way into the front at the very beginning of the race”,Aaronrecalled. “I didn’t have a very good gate pick so that was what I was most worried about. I just zigzagged my way through those first couple corners and came out in a pretty good spot. From there, I was really just trying to do my own thing and be smart. I had a bit of a battle with Cory Graffunder. We went back and forth a few times and I made a quick run through the firewood and it worked out for me; I got a bit of a gap and held on to it for the rest of the race”.
Having been a featured racer since the sport’s inception in 2004, Geoff has over a decade of EnduroCross experience to his name. He called on his decade of know-how in dialing in his new 2015 Gas Gas EC 300 for the very specialized discipline. The light weight and nimble handling capabilities of the 300cc two-stroke are the ideal race weapon for conquering the extreme mix of off-road and motocross obstacles that make up an EnduroCross course.
“I’ve been in EnduroCross since the beginning and every year we learn a little more about setup”,Aaron said. “I tried to apply as much as I knew to my new Gas Gas EC 300, and obviously we’ve got a competitive bike. I’m really pleased with the way it was working tonight”.
Look for Geoff Aaron and Gas Gas at the next round of the GEICO AMA EnduroCross Series, which will be a featured event at the ESPN X Games in Austin, Texas. Aaron will be gunning for an X Games medal aboard his Gas Gas EC 300 in the Moto X Enduro X competition.
