I was late getting around to the announcement of a new, Yamaha YX250X. The tuning fork guys have finally gotten back around to building an off road race two stroke. Should that be called a WR? Well I guess the WR name and racing have been disassociated for so long it wouldn’t be the right move. 20 years ago Yamaha was the epitome of the Japanese brands who couldn’t quite get the off road mix right. The long running WR250 model was always old technology, too heavy and in general not quite up to race pace.
So who out there is a YZ fan? No doubt they are great bikes and have been one of the most popular choices if you wanted a two stroke that wasn’t orange. This model is clearly aimed at the XC style racer, no extras, just the race basics. The price will certainly be attractive, $1500 below the 250xc.
So chime in and let me know what you think about the new Yamaha.
