TCX X-Garage Boot Review
TCX X-Garage – Work In Comfort
I have a favorite new pair of shoes. It is pretty much as simple as that. The TCX X-Garage boot is lightweight, super comfortable and just about the perfect answer for working around the garage, yard and casual riding.
I have always been a boot guy. It seems I am always working somewhere that I need that extra function or protection from real boots. For many years I have worn basic Justin lace work boots. But for the last few years I have sort of gotten away from them. My current pair are just not that comfortable. I wore the previous pair until the toes were gone.
When the guys at TCX told me they had the ultimate shop boot, I was skeptical. But that was quickly proven wrong. The X-Garage is almost as light as a tennis shoe. The sole has great cushion too. So they don’t feel that far from a tennis shoe in terms of comfort.
The entire boot has a very light interior pad and mesh liner, including the tongue. The liner is just slightly thicker in the upper. This really helps contribute to the shoe like comfort. It makes a significant difference in hot weather, the foot stays cool and dry.
Unlike most European moto boots, the TCX sizing is very accurate. I ordered one size larger based on my experience with brands like Sidi and Alpinestars that run small. What I got ended up being a full size too large. But it is not really a problem, the boots are still very comfortable and roomy. I even wore them on the airplane for my recent trip because I expected muddy conditions at the destination.
I have been wearing them for casual riding on the adventure bike too. The light weight and comfort would probably make them my first choice for any street riding. Perhaps my only complaint would be the lack of a speed lace system. But for summer time I typically wear them around only partially laced, in true hick fashion, anyway.
At first I was a little worried that these might just be fancy hippster boots. But no, they are the real deal, boots made for people who can appreciate them. At $199 they are right at the top of the price range. But the design and workmanship justify the value.
