The Scorpion VX-R70 has been my go to helmet for the past few months and I like it. It is light weight, comfortable and has a nice range of features.
This helmet features a composite shell with dual density EPS interior. It has a traditional D ring style strap. The sleek visor is flexible and claimed to be shatter resistant. Not tools are needed to change the visor. The liner is Scorpion’s KwikWick material for heat and moisture control. The liner removes easy for cleaning. The liner material seems to be of good quality and has kept it’s initial fit.
A large eye port gives wide vision and a snug goggle fit. Ventilation is built into the shell and it flows plenty of air. The VX-R70 is both DOT and ECE approved.
What is most unique to the Scorpion is the Air Pump liner inflation system. Each cheek pad has a small air bladder underneath it. A small ball pump is located in the chin bar. Just a few pumps on the ball inflated the pads to create a custom fit. There is also an air relief valve to let the air out again.
It is an interesting concept and I have come to really enjoy it. It gives a great quality of fit. It also allows me some flexibility on how I use it. For example there are times when working on trail that I don’t want to take my helmet off and it is nice to have a loose fit when walking around or for slow riding. On the track I pump it up nice and snug.
I really like this helmet. It fits well, as well as any other premium lid that I have used. The air bladder is really cool. The probably would not choose the red Flux color, I go for more cool tones, but it still looks sharp. It is a lot of helmet for the money. Scorpion tells me they will have some new innovative products out for this coming season too.
