A1 Supercross – Insights From The Couch

Completely unfounded opinions from A1

Marvin Musquin Wins Supercross Opener Simon Cudby photo

Same as it ever was – Winner Marvin Musquin may as well have a number 5 on his back. He didn’t get a great start, but rode his race and let it come to him. Stick to the plan, put yourself in position, keep your head and don’t make any mistakes. This week it was good enough for the win.

Tomac puts himself out….again – Eli is his own undoing. For all his talent, the mental gremlins still seem to be there.

Wardrobe malfunction – I have been wearing a few other brands of gear lately, forgot how absolutely minimalist they have become (cheap). More than once I have looked at a pair of pants and thought of Damon Huffman losing his a National years ago. I have literally thought “this could lose a race”. And we saw it happen once again. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

No Semi’s – So what is the deal now? If they are going to cut the show down by 30 minutes, I can see that. But I suspect it is so we can listen to an extra half hour of Supercross telling us how awesome they are.

NASCAR formula – I’m sure we will see much more of this. How long before we get a competition caution and a “Chase”. Sad because the riders and racing are so good they don’t need a bunch of phony hype. Outdoors is the real motocross program.

The “94” show – SX is looking for a new franchise player now that Dungey is gone. Looks like the first up to bat is KR94. Seems they do this every year, spend a bunch of time selling the audience on one rider to root for. Again, it just isn’t necessary. And there are so many deserving riders who need some exposure.

Deano – Watching Dean Wilson crash was heartbreaking. Let’s hope he isn’t injured. Can be a contender if he can keep healthy.

Bam Bam – Good to see Barcia out there putting up a fight.

CR22 – As a previous broadcast crew darling, I was surprised to see almost no mention of Chad Reed in the telecast.

Black is the new pink – And all of a sudden every gear company independently decided  that black was the new thing. I think there needs to be an investigation.

KTM wins everything – It was a good day for KTM. They won the Dakar Stage, Super Enduro and both SX classes.
