As I manage an entire fleet of bikes for Baja, I am always looking for ways to be economical. The OEM clutch cover gasket for a KTM RFS 450/525 is nearly $20. When I saw the Winderosa gasket for under $10 I thought I would give it a try.
If you are not familiar with Winderosa, they are part of All Balls and sell gaskets under their own brand and supply as private label to Moose Racing.
Verdict – I installed clutch cover gaskets on two bikes. One leaks outright, the other weeps all the way around the cover after a couple of days of riding. It is pretty obvious why; the OEM gasket is .90mm thick, while the Winderosa is .50mm.
I sent an email to Winderosa describing the situation. I did receive a quick reply asking for additional application info. Beyond that I have not gotten any response even though I sent an additional request for reply.
They make a wide range of gaskets, so this situation may be unique. But it seems pretty obvious that in this instance they chose to skimp on material. So I am going to have to give it a thumbs down. I will stick with stock.
